Our Nursery provides part-time education 2, for 3 and 4 year old children. The maximum number on roll in any one session is twenty-six. Children may attend for five morning or five afternoon sessions. We also offer full days for 3 and 4 year old's with an option to pay for extra sessions. Several 30 hour funded places are also available at Gilbert Heathcote.
Please refer to the document below regarding our Nursery Funding Entitlement and Admissions for more information.
Your child’s name can be added to the Nursery Admissions Book by telephoning the school and speaking to the Nursery Teacher Miss Kay. Places are allocated in a fair manner and parents need to understand that the allocation of a Nursery place to a child who lives outside the normal catchment area does not automatically guarantee a place in the Reception class.
Admission Arrangements 2018-2019
For entry in to our Reception (and any in-year admissions) Gilbert Heathcote Nursery and Infant School participate in the Local Authority Admissions scheme.. Therefore Derbyshire County Council co-ordinate the Admissions applications on the academy's behalf.
The LA is responsible for all admissions and enables parents to express a preference for one, two or three schools and to place those preferences in rank order. Parents must make their application on a common application form or preferably via the Derbyshire County Council website, prior to the cut-off date, giving reasons for their preferred schools. Further information about the coordinated admissions scheme is available in the Authority’s Parents’ Information Booklet – ‘An Essential Guide to Primary Education’.
All applications to Reception must be made directly to Derbyshire Local Authority as indicated below. There is only one admission round within the year into Reception and this is in September. A child who is five between the 1st September 2013 and the following 31st August 2014 will be admitted into Reception in the September 2018. The pupil admission number for Gilbert Heathcote Nursery and Infant School is 40.
Children transfer to junior education when they have completed their final year in our Infant school at the age of 7. The majority of our children move to Cavendish Junior School.
